AMD was unprofitable again
The second-largest processor maker has a better-than-expected but loss-making quarter.
AMD generated a loss of $ 1,62 million in the third quarter, with sales of $ 118 billion. Revenue showed a slight decline compared to the second quarter. Profits from the processor division kicked in at $ 168 million, but graphics segment revenue was down 11% from the second quarter. Quantified: the division’s revenue fell from $ 440 million to $ 390 million. The explanation lies in poor sales performance of notebook GPUs, over-orders, and declining prices.
AMD is likely to have higher sales in the traditionally strongest fourth quarter, which could already be the lion's share of the upcoming HD 6000 series.
