Intel: The new Celeron CPU outperforms its predecessor by 9-34%
Celeron with 45-nanometer manufacturing technology versus its 65-nm predecessor.
Measurements by Intel show a 9-34% performance improvement due to twice as much L2 cache and 100 MHz higher clock speeds. The 2,4 GHz Celeron Dual-Core E1600 and the 2,5 GHz Celeron Dual-Core E3300 played on a motherboard with a G31 chipset with 1 GB of system memory:
- VirtualDub 1.7.2 and DivX 6.7, HD video encoding and MPEG-DivX conversion: the former took 9, the latter 10% less time
- iTunes 7.4.2.1, compress to MP3: the E1600 took 11% more time
- 3DMark06: The new Celeron scored 14% higher
- Adobe Photoshop Lightroom, resize images: The E34 finished 3300% earlier
