IEEE 802.16m

The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) has named 802.16m the next generation wireless standard.

The 4G- and WiMAX-compatible IEEE 802.16m standard promises a WLAN capable of transmitting 1 Gbit of data per second, but as we know, this is only the theoretical maximum, usually only a fraction of similar values can be used.

According to the IEEE, it will take another year or two for the new standard to be introduced and its specifications finalized, and it will certainly take another year for it to spread. It is enough to think of the very similar 802.11n wireless standard, the specifications of which are still waiting to be finalized, while the devices and hardware that take advantage of the possibilities inherent in the technology have only been introduced recently.

In addition, 3G is in its infancy in most countries, so it is useless to support 4G if it does not have the right network, and the release of mobile phones that support it is expected only in 2-3 years.
