The DVD + RW DL has been officially announced

Hearing this news, we can rightly expect to slowly meet the newcomer in stores.

The DVD + RW Alliance yesterday officially announced DVD + RW DL version 1.0, which they have been working on for two years, sponsored by HP, Mitsubishi Kagaku Media / Verbatim, Royal Philips Electronics, Ricoh, Sony Corporation, Thomson Inc. and Yamaha.

The DVD + RW DL has been officially announced

The new 2,4GB media, which can be written at 8,5x speed, is based on a new phase-change technology that allows you to write to both the semi-transmissive layer (“0”) and the much more reflective layer (“1”). can be written. Due to this new structure of the disc, the red laser only reflects between 5-10% (for write-once data carriers, this value is around 15-20%), which also means that we will need a special drive to properly handle the new discs. In Hungarian, if we want to write them, we will definitely need a new DVD writer and most likely a new reader as well, but the latter has not yet been fully clarified.

The standard also includes a description of the 8 cm discs, and we can expect a further increase in speed.
