For Pioneer's latest Blu-ray burner, data security is paramount

Just yesterday we were delighted with LiteOn’s internal Blu-ray writer, and today we were in the mood for Pioneer, but this time they don’t want to get customers with speed, but with data-secure use.

For Pioneer's latest Blu-ray burner, data security is paramount

At BDR-PR1, the engineers did not work at top-speed write and read speeds, but rather the integrity of disks, i.e. data security, as the primary target. Nowadays, when we store 50 GB of files on a single disk - which can be several years of work - a write / read error can be very inconvenient, which is why they have slowed down. Using a SATA 3GB / s interface with 4 MB of write cache memory, the device has the following (maximum) roasting speeds:

  • 6 × - BD-R, double layer BD-R (50 GB) and BD-R (LtH)
  • 2 × - for single or dual layer BD
  • 16 × - DVD ± R
  • 8 × - double burn DVD ± R
  • 40 × - CD-R

The Pioneer BDR-PR1 will hit store shelves later this month at a price unknown yet.
