Official R600 specifications

We only have to wait six weeks and the first DirectX 10 Radeon video card, the X2900 XTX, is released.

The R2800 GPU, formerly known as the X600 XTX, will eventually be marketed as the Radeon X2900 XTX. The 700 million transistors, officially confirmed by AMD, are an astonishing figure, especially considering the data of the previous generation: 580 million for the X1900 series based on the R384 and 520 million for the X1800 cards on the R320. By comparison, NVIDIA’s current top card, the GeForce 8800 GTX, which boasts 681 million transistor numbers, is worth mentioning.

The X2900 XTX, equipped with a two-seater cooling unit, will be available in two versions from March 30: the 12-inch "OEM monster" can be the basis of high-end computer configurations, while the commercial version, which can be purchased separately by users, is "only" 9,5 inches long, which translates to 24,1. It corresponds to XNUMX cm.

The reference card will have 1GB of Samsung GDDR4 memory, with a 512MB version coming later. The next step is the lower-clock Radeon X512 XT with 3MB of GDDR2900, but you have to wait an extra month for its premiere. Of course, support for technologies such as HDMI and native CrossFire mode, which are now a basic requirement nowadays, is not left out. In addition to the PCI Express x2900 slot, a 16 and an 6 (8 × 2) pin power connector is required to power the Radeon X4 cards.

AMD plans to provide software support for DX10 cards with the Catalyst driver package, version 8.36, due in the second half of March.

For the premiere of the R600, a demonstration of its capabilities on March 15-21. It will take place at the CeBIT 2007 trade fair, which will take place between and after XNUMX, but here only those interested can see the reference cards. The final announcement of the final operating frequency values is yet to come, according to DailyTech, we will find out later this month.
