Hybrid CrossFire preview: surprising results

The new games also manage the integrated chipset, still known as RS780.

The HotHardware staff were so lucky to be able to take a closer look at a test system running an early RS780 motherboard, a 2,2 GHz Phenom processor and an HD 3450 video card. The latter would already be worth a separate piece of news, but now we would rather write a few lines about the total performance of the integrated graphics core and the HD card.

Hybrid CrossFire preliminary surprising results

Two games were successfully run on the AMD system, the display of which was not only entrusted to the IGP, but also the Hybrid CrossFire, which can be created with the HD 3450, was commissioned as a second measurement. Let's see how fast Call of Duty 4 and Unreal Tournament 3 ran:

AMD RS780:

  • COD 4 1024 × 768: 30 frames per second
  • UT 3 1024 × 768: 27 frames per second

AMD RS780 + Radeon HD 3450:

  • COD 4 1024 × 768: 50 frames per second
  • UT 3 1024 × 768: 45 frames per second

Unfortunately, the detailed settings were not revealed, in any case, the image quality errors typical of the integrated graphics controllers did not occur during the test. However, the values achieved are still respectable, especially considering the price at which we can get such 3D performance. According to preliminary figures, an RS780 card could fall between $ 70 and $ 110, while an HD 3450 card will hit the market around $ 50. So for $ 150, we get a configuration base with more than enough 3D performance that easily manages to play HD quality content as well. In addition, thanks to advanced energy management solutions, the power consumption of the machine only spins up when it is really needed.

We have time to reflect on the facts reported above before the beginning of next year.
