News about the 6G iPod

The fifth-generation iPod came out nine months ago, the iPod nano 10 months ago, and a full year and a half since the shuffle hit store shelves.

In February 2006, the first rumors of a "real" video iPod with a 3,5-inch touch screen and a virtual "click wheel" surfaced. At the time, it seemed that the release date could be set for spring, but "due to unforeseen technical problems" nothing came of this and it seems that it won't happen until January 2007, the Macworld Expo, except for a possible minor update for the fifth generation line.

Of course, the more the latest incarnation of Apple's music player is delayed, the more rumors start to fly about it. There were those who said that 6G iPods could already be controlled by voice — but that seems to have been false: Apple didn't find a user-friendly way to implement it, and it's likely that only a small percentage of customers would be interested in the feature. Other birds are chirping that the time for OLED displays has come for "apples", however, according to ThinkSecret's sources, this idea was quickly discarded, due to the highly limited lifespan of displays with this technology.

Several speculated that the 6G iPods would include a Wi-Fi connection, but it seems that this feature will remain with the Microsoft Zune player: Apple says WLAN has too bad an impact on battery life, and they don’t plan a mobile music purchase. not to mention the introduction of a solution, not to mention that transferring our favorite songs between our machine and the player wouldn’t be much faster.

Finally, the iPhone project, i.e. the development of Apple’s own mobile phone, is still in progress; the sequel is said to be expected next year.
