Updated AMD 790FX motherboard from Foxconn

The A79A-S Digital Life board comes with the latest south bridge.

Contrary to expectations, Foxconn engineers did not pair an SB700 with an SB750 chip to the 790FX North Bridge. This chipset piece would in principle only have been introduced with the 790GX boards, but apparently the manufacturer couldn’t wait for the premiere and so wanted to toss up Socket’s AM2 + AMD peak series.

Compared to the 700, the chip was enriched with virtually a minimal plus. Support for RAID 5 arrays has been introduced, and the parent company guarantees even greater overclocking when using Phenom processors. Here, the line of news ends quickly, so to speak, everything else is left, as we were used to with a 790FX sheet. That is, the chipset provides full Phenom support via the HyperTransport 3.0 data bus, can handle 1066 MHz DDR2 modules, and can control up to four Radeon graphics cards through CrossFireX technology.

However, it was not called Digital Life, but because of the integrated eight-channel sound processor. The exact type of chip is still a mystery, but DTS Connect support and Dolby Digital Live certification suggest a Realtek chip. In addition, there is a range of ports for connecting external devices, even multimedia devices, on both the PCB and the board. Two FireWire, 12 USB and 2 eSATA connectors will certainly suffice for many.

The Foxconn A79A-S could hit store shelves in a short time, with a suggested retail price of $ 230.
