According to the announcement of EDF DÉMÁSZ, the electricity consumption of nearly two thousand households in the Great Plain is registered by “smart meters” in the test program of EDF DÉMÁSZ Hálózati Elosztó Kft. Since the beginning of April, customers taking part in the test have been able to use their smart meters to monitor their electricity consumption and even reduce the amount of energy they use in their household.

All Hungarian electricity service providers joined the national project, which is expected to last until the end of 2013. The program aims to find out if customers are changing their energy usage habits if they have the ability to track their power consumption very accurately. This is possible on the test program's web interface: selected customers can track their consumption on a quarterly hourly basis after registration.

Consumption can be analyzed in great detail on the website: customers can identify peak consumption periods in their household as well as changes in values by switching on the washing machine or irrigation system. They can look at how much it means in terms of energy consumption to unplug electrical equipment that is not in use but in standby mode. In addition, winter and summer consumption and their costs are comparable.

Customers of the smart metering test program will automatically receive an up-to-date bill without dictation or reading, so they will pay the price of the electricity consumed according to their actual consumption, the announcement states. [MTI]
