In addition to cooling, other changes were made compared to the reference plans.

With two GPUs here or there, manufacturers are designing their own HD 3870 X2 solutions in a similar way to simple cards. We’ve already seen pictures of custom cooling and doubling the DVI outputs, but Powercolor has ventured even further.

Bare the PCIe control chip

Based on Fudzilla images, the red printed circuit board has been shortened somewhat, which means a slightly narrower layout during cooling compared to ATI’s recommendations. If we had to squat, we could be around now at the length of the HD 2900 XT, which isn’t such a bad performance from a PCB that pairs two graphics cores. The two power PCIe connectors are located close together and have the same layout - 6 pins.

4 DVI and one S-Video output

The new cooling unit is made entirely of aluminum, which is said to be able to control the heat production of the two RV670 chips despite the increased clocks. Its big advantage is that it is much lighter than its reference predecessor.
