AMD's 45nm processors will arrive in a year
Or what can we expect from AMD?
From the German ComputerBase, we not only know at what point in the year the series production and distribution of the quad-core Phenom 9xxx CPUs and the top model deprived of the multiplier lock, the Phenom FX-8x, will begin, but we will also get an idea of the processor manufacturer's plans later.
According to the schedule, the generational change will start at the end of 2008. The first generation of 45nm processors can be plugged into a Socket AM2 + socket, but their integrated memory controller only handles DDR2 modules. In contrast, the quad-core Deneb FX, Deneb and Propus, and tri-core Heka and dual-core Regor CPUs coming in the first half of 2009 will require a Socket AM3 motherboard and DDR3 memory, which in the latter two also does DDR2.
