Edimax at the dawn of the n-era

Our article, as noticeably not a test, is much more about raising awareness in the direction of Edimax network devices. We think now is really the time for this, in the area of devices that support the n standard, at least in any case. This reason is simple. Since the standard was finalized, we no longer have to worry — which was sometimes a real threat — that the device we just bought will not be compatible with most other devices in the future. The 802.11n standard is now final, we also know that Draft 2.0 devices conform to the standard, so we will come across more and more devices based on this standard later on. It is enough to think only of the desktop network devices supported by LG wireless, on which the letter n is already adorned.

So it's time to switch. Of course, we don’t recommend unplugging the cable from the wall if you’re already inside, but I do recommend that if you build a network at home, think calmly about new wireless devices. It will be perfect for multimedia and file copying, and it is even suitable for transmitting HD resolution materials. This is an important argument as the IT market is about to transform. Much of our machines so far will be replaced in the near future in the form of nettops and their counterparts. These devices already have enough power today (at least on the ION front) to play HD footage on them, browse the web, or even use them for office work. Their only, and expected, irreplaceable disadvantage lies in their non-expandability, and that’s what the higher data transfer bandwidth is a remedy for, as there is nothing in the case of mass storage that it should be in the machine and not in another part of the house, possibly in the study. And if that’s the case, and if the n devices are available, we can already build our home multimedia network, where data is migrating to the designated location at the right speed but wirelessly.

What’s certain is that I’ll be upgrading and replacing my current wireless system soon, plus I’m not going to ignore Edimax solutions because in my experience, they’re reliable, and they also look good.
