Rough rumors are spreading about Intel

The company has been the king of semiconductor manufacturing for 24 years, and now it has an increasingly gloomy vision ahead of it.

Although Intel stands on several legs, a sizable portion of the revenue still comes from CPUs. For this to remain the case in the future, it is necessary to apply Moore’s Law as long as possible, which requires pouring heavy billions into the continuous improvement of production. As we have reported in recent days, there are problems in this area. 

Intel is unexpectedly stuck at 14 nm, switching to a bandwidth of 10 nm with a brutal slip. DigiTimes finds it conceivable that the chip giant will back out of this technology competition pretty slowly and, like AMD, become a fabless model. Obviously, this cannot happen recently, it would be a sin to leave the already existing technique anyway; for less complex products (chipset, NAND flash, 3D XPoint memory) it is not absolutely necessary to use the most modern procedure. In the distant future, however, it is possible that the Core family will be made at one of GlobalFoundries ’plants, the portal says.
