The magic word is Low Power Display Technology (LPDT).

The operating time of portable machines can increase dramatically

The biggest crab of portable computing devices is clearly uptime. Developers have been placing a strong emphasis on keeping availability as long as possible for many years. Although the results are tangible, the work cannot stop anyway. Intel is targeting displays at the next step, as LPDT is designed to get portable gadget displays to do as little energy as possible.

How much can this cost users? According to PCWorld sources, not a few: they floated 4-8 hours of extra operating time, which seems very pleasant. Obviously, the question arises, aren’t we going to find something to complain about in terms of image quality? We can't say for sure at the moment that the brightness is supposed to bring the expected level - the prototype may have been around 350 nits - we probably don't have to reckon with a substantial deterioration.

LDPT is set to make its debut as early as this year’s holiday season, so developments could be well advanced. Of course, it would be very early to talk about prices, we will not make predictions this time.
