AMD has made a seemingly bold but not unfounded statement.

David spoke gently to Goliath

The Ryzen 2000 series, the first upgrade to Zen architecture, has just been released. Even less experienced users may have noticed that the Ryzen 7 1800X was surprisingly followed by the Ryzen 7 2700X. Where can the actual offspring be? Well, one of AMD's heads (Jim Anderson) has revealed the big secret: the Ryzen 7 2800X is waiting for its worthy opponent! As you can see, the Reds appreciate that the smaller solution, the Ryzen 7 8700X, is perfectly sufficient against the flagship of the Intel Coffee Lake series, the Core i7-2700K. So a real cannon can only show up on store shelves if Intel measures a counterattack, that is, if it comes up with an even more powerful processor.

Literally we are not, AMD's statement is not unfounded. Planted on a 12nm bandwidth, the Zen plays pretty well, although it still requires more physical processing units, or better logical threads, than its opposite Intel CPU. In well-parallelized applications, this is the result, with the Ryzen 7 2700X truly surpassing its rival. The situation is different in games, there is still the i7-8700K the more agile. The latter is also supported by more favorable consumption and (to some extent) IGP. We can also say that most buyers prefer Intel over two processors with similar capabilities, so overall it’s hard to decide whether AMD is bluffing about the existence of the Ryzen 7 2800X, or whether the beast is really just waiting to “get some fresh meat”.

What do you think about this?
