The number of infected emails is reduced

MessageLabs has released a security survey for April, which shows that as the number of infected emails decreases, more and more unsolicited emails end up in mailboxes.

MessageLabs conducts a monthly survey that focuses on current issues and trends in the field of email security. According to the company, April was relatively calm and there was a smaller decrease in the number of infected emails.

A report from MessageLabs found that in April, 1,5 percent of global email traffic was emails that were infected with some form of malware. This figure is 0,7 percent lower than in March. The company’s experts say the decline in the number of worms and other malware that can be detected in emails shows that the likelihood of global virus outbreaks is declining. Nowadays, more targeted virus attacks are more common.

The MessageLabs survey also covers the evolution of the number of unsolicited emails. The company reported that 58,5 percent of all email traffic in April was classified as spam. This also means that the number of spams increased by 0,7% compared to March. According to the company's experts, the number of spam has not increased compared to the same period last year, but spam filtering has become more effective.
