Core, or Mag

The new architecture was officially unveiled at the ongoing Intel Developer Forum.

Before reported from completely new Intel processors than ever before. The data described here was only confirmed by what was said at the IDF, the day of the central units based on NetBurst was over. The core type also got a new name: it is simply called Core. In terms of structure, it could best be compared to a mixture of the Pentium III and Centrino, with many useful innovations, of course. Here we can think primarily of faster SSE instruction execution, more efficient energy use, and better system bus management.

Core, or Mag

The image shows a simplified block diagram of the structure of the Conroe core. As you can see, this is a dual-core system, each with a separate first-level cache, but the second-level one is already common: this may be a better solution for performing operations, because the data required by one core may have been stored by the other in the previous cycle.

Core, or Mag

Here we can take a look at the physical structure of the core - although the image is quite low resolution, it is clear that about 45 percent of the core area is occupied by the second-level cache at the bottom.
