Once again, it turned out that the shield of the Google browser was not unbreakable either, this time the gap opened in a place where we would not have really expected otherwise. With an excellent rating and more than 105 users, the Archive Poster add-on has endowed Tumblr with various auxiliary functions. The security incident started when an unauthorized person accessed the Google Account of the developer who performed the update. From here, the hackers didn’t have a hard time, placing the Monero mining code only increased the source code by a few lines, and after uploading it to the Chrome Web Store, the victims ’browsers already automatically downloaded the new, now malicious version.

Once the case came to light, Archive Poster became unavailable, but users who had already downloaded the extensions would have to delete it themselves. It’s instructive that the modified version has been active for weeks, merely starting to become suspicious after deteriorating reviews and outraged comments.
