Bye UPC DolgozóNet?

We learned from a letter from one of our dear readers that UPC has redesigned its service called Employeenet and its discount for civil servants.

According to the content of the letter, the discount known as Workernet has been abolished. The Employee was a framework contract entered into by UPC with the employer, which provided a service equivalent to that of Chello Classic to the employer's employees, but for less money than to customers falling from the street. According to the reader's letter, this discount was abolished or transformed in such a way that customers with a DolgozóNet connection were not transferred to the Extreme package replacing Classic, but to Medium, and they had to pay exactly the same amount as the customer who arrives from the street to the UPC office.

We didn’t hesitate to look for the facts, by the way, to ask a few questions about the transformative packages.

A UPC official told us that the DolgozóNet service should be split into two. There is the above-mentioned framework contract relationship and there is a civil servant discount next to it. Until 2007 March XNUMX, these two packages operated under the same conditions. From March XNUMX, non-public service customers of DolgozóNet will receive the same service as the Extreme package, while the bandwidth of public employees will be the same as the Medium package.

However, the competent authority considered it important to emphasize that there should be no equal sign between the discounted packages and the Classic and now Extreme and Medium packages. Although the bandwidth of the discounted packages was the same as the Classic package, it was not the Classic package.

Speaking of prices, a UPC spokesman also said that we need to give the reader’s letter some truth. Although the price of DolgozóNet has not increased, a customer entering the street with a two-year loyalty contract will receive a Medium package with the same bandwidth as DolgozóNet for about a thousand forints cheaper, but it is also true that this amount is about 700 forints higher than the discounted DolgozóNet. In the case of DolgozóNet, the customer can request a free security package (SmartGuard) for street customers from UPC for one year free of charge, and can also take advantage of a discount related to the UPC phone.

The point is that DolgozóNet is not a Classic, not Extreme or Medium package, it matches or partially covers their maximum parameters. With such a standstill, UPC is of the opinion that they should not be bound by the Classic package in terms of DolgozóNet, all the more so because it has ceased to exist as such, and the smaller Medium package also offers additional services at the same price.

It is arguable that UPC’s position is ethical, but not that the move could have been taken. Those who have so far believed they have received the Classic package as part of DolgozóNet may have had an unpleasant surprise, but that doesn't matter, as UPC has done nothing but change the terms of the discounted DolgozóNet, which is unrelated to its other services.

Going further on the question, we asked about the package change as well as the underlying changes. The new bandwidth is no longer in question, it can be found on the UPC website, however it can also be read below:

package speed monthly fee *
MINIMUM 1280/256 HUF 5.500
MEDIUM 5120/768 HUF 7.900
EXTREME 10240/1024 HUF 9.900
PROFESSIONAL 20480/1024 HUF 16.900

We are not really interested in this detail either, but in removing the download limit. Well, the news is true, of course, so there is no limit. More specifically, there is something similar to the limit set by T-Online, but a small but more important moment in comparison.

According to the Fair Use Policy, a user who reaches an average of 250 GB / month of download for three consecutive months will receive "only" 10 percent of the bandwidth available to him in the following month. This is not so small, as the reduced bandwidth for the Extreme package is still 1024 lines.

The deviation from T-Online's regulation is that UPC examines three consecutive months in each case, while T-Online only says that on the basis of an average of three months, it does not say which three months it is. This little difference, if we think it over, is not that small.
