Blog sites are spreading the stormy virus

The malicious program called "Storm Worm", which posed a serious threat in January, has come back to life in the past few days and is now threatening blog fans.

The creators of the "Storm Worm" timed the distribution of their malicious program during the big European storms in January. By taking advantage of the bad weather situation, which received a lot of attention in the media, the virus writers managed to cause a serious headache for both security companies and users. Immediately after the discovery of the malware, F-Secure drew attention to the dangers in a statement. It soon turned out that the threat was actually a Trojan program that was included in thousands of spam attachments. When users opened the attached file, their computers were immediately infected, and the Trojan then created a backdoor on the targeted PCs.

With Storm Worm infecting thousands of computers eight hours after it began spreading in January, it’s no wonder security companies have been paying special attention to monitoring new variants of the malware ever since. According to the latest information, Storm Worm will not give up the fight and has started to spread in the form of a newer version. Now, the computers of users who mainly like blogs and forums are at risk because of it.

According to Dmitri Alperovitch, a security researcher at Secure Computing, the new version of the malware also comes mostly as an attachment to emails, but it is already able to spread through various web solutions. This is accomplished primarily by adding a link to malicious websites to blog or forum posts sent from infected computers. Thus, if the user who wrote the message does not check the text sent, it is easy to add a damaging link to your post. Trojans can be protected by keeping antivirus software up to date and careful internet browsing.
