Vulnerability in mobile phone

The vulnerability of the Motorola RAZR series devices can be exploited through malicious images.

The security of mobile devices needs to be addressed more day by day. This is because these tools are also increasingly surrounded by threats. Although the rate of spread of mobile viruses is not significant today, other data security issues are often faced. For example, the possibility of data loss due to device loss or theft, as well as the existence of mobile vulnerabilities, should not be overlooked. This is also confirmed by the latest case of Motorola, as a very unpleasant flaw has been revealed in the case of RAZR devices.

The vulnerability was reported by TippingPoint these days, but as it turned out later, Motorola experts have known about the vulnerability for a long time. The vulnerability could be exploited by attackers through specially crafted JPEG images, which could even be sent via MMS to affected devices. When a user views such a photo, memory management errors occur that allow malicious code to run unauthorized. The vulnerability is contained in an EXIF (Exchangable Image File) management component associated with one of the JPEG components.

Motorola has confirmed the news of the existence of the vulnerability. The company said the likelihood of exploiting the vulnerability is fairly low, but the security flaw has been fixed nonetheless. Motorola has recommended a firmware update for RAZR phones, while it is already fixing the anomaly on its new handsets.
