Ultrabooks are already in the pantry!

At least Intel wants to have an Ultrabook already in the pantry, so we’re trying a little better now to hit the head, they’ve created a new notebook variant.

True not now, but sometime a year ago, but somehow it failed to plant the idea in people’s minds to buy an Ultrabook, perhaps because people don’t even know very well that such a machine exists.

Yet they do exist, they are beautiful, they are terribly thin, they are so light that slowly gravity is not enough to keep them on the table, and they can also show quite pleasant features in terms of power and battery life.

According to Intel, at least it seems to me, now is the time to do more serious marketing behind the otherwise awful expensive machines. They claim that there are more than a hundred types of Ultrabooks today, and now let’s think about variants like touchscreen, slide-out keyboard, keyless, and other subspecies.

Yesterday, I was also able to attend a presentation for journalists, which, while the presentation was fun, did not bring much novelty in terms of information. No matter, in return, those journalist colleagues who came because of the buffet table also understood the point.

The most significant change from the first release anyway is that Ivy Bridge-based machines are now coming. Five of these machines were also demonstrated on site by five manufacturers. Acer, ASUS, Fujitsu, Lenovo and Toshiba were represented.

Ultrabooks are really exciting machines anyway, but in my opinion, the real novelty will not be brought by the hardware itself, but by Windows 8. The new windows system will be a real paradise to run on Ultrabooks, especially if installed on a touchscreen instance. The tiles in the new operating system will make brilliant use of the light but powerful machines.

While I’m excited to look forward to the test machines coming with Win8, I’m not cloudlessly happy yet, as it is suspected that Ultrabooks will for the time being offer an alternative to more affluent peoples, as opposed to traditional notebook penetration. According to modest estimates, the structures arriving at an altitude of 250-300 thousand forints will mostly serve prestige purposes, they will be good for being able to put them on the table next to the iPhone in a trial. Of course, this does not degrade the performance of the machines, I just note that in the case of a price drop of 200-220 thousand, the manufacturers would even find a sufficient number of domestic customers.

So the machines are nice, good, the press conference was fun, maybe I want to ask for a little more variety of soft drinks for the next time because being a car man, beer, wine and champagne were not the right drinks for the celebration. Thank you for the invitation!
