Oracle, which is one of the world's largest manufacturers of business software and hardware, will establish a development center in Hungary and increase its staff by 10 percent, Péter Szijjártó, Secretary of State for Foreign and Economic Affairs of the Prime Minister's Office, announced in Budapest on Monday.

At the press conference, Péter Szijjártó emphasized that Oracle's decision proves that Hungary is a reliable and predictable partner according to US investors and that the government's efforts to create an investor-friendly and predictable business environment in Hungary were successful. Csaba Reményi, Managing Director of Oracle Hungary, said that the new department called Oracle Applications Lab complements the existing sales activities in Hungary with an innovative, international development function.
Péter Szijjártó recalled that during his visit to the United States two weeks ago, he also discussed with Oracle executives. With Monday's decision, Oracle voted to trust highly qualified Hungarian IT and computer professionals, through them to Hungarian technical and IT higher education, and the government's policy to support research and development (R&D) and innovation, he said. The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Economic Affairs emphasized that the establishment of Oracle's global development center will enable highly qualified Hungarian professionals to contribute to the better functioning of the world economy, as the databases, solutions and applications developed by the company help companies - without this, they could hardly be managed effectively.
It was a good decision on the part of the government to treat research and development and innovation as a priority, as this has led to the creation and creation of a large number of jobs in Hungary, said Péter Szijjártó. The new development center also means that new R&D resources will come to Hungary from a company that has three times as much R&D expenditure as the entire Hungarian research and development sector. We can hope that these resources will multiply and will significantly contribute to the growth of the Hungarian economy, the Secretary of State emphasized.
Managing Director Csaba Reményi said that the Budapest Development Group of Oracle Applications Lab (OAL) will start its activities this year. The Budapest branch is part of the OAL global network; the department uses its own organization as a test environment to deploy the first applications and find innovative solutions, he added. He also said that the lab often precedes standard product development and develops add-ons, customized applications that best meet the needs of Oracle employees. If they work, they will often be included in the original product and will also be available to customers, the manager said. This year it is the second and in the last two years the third unit that Oracle will place in Hungary - emphasized Csaba Reményi.
Csaba Reményi said that $ 4,5 billion was spent on research and development in the previous fiscal year. Oracle is pleased to see that engineering and IT training is a priority in the government’s education strategy, the chief executive said. He also spoke about the fact that Oracle has made significant efforts to support Hungarian IT higher education through its junior program since 2007. He added that currently three universities are accepting courses in the program as accredited, credit-worthy courses, and 12 more universities have joined the initiative, with 6.500 students enrolled so far.
The CEO recalled that Oracle had revenue of $ 145 billion in more than 37,1 countries around the world in its fiscal year ended May. Oracle has 115 employees, including 34 product development engineers and another 18 engineers working on product launches. Oracle has been present in Hungary since 1993 and currently employs more than 200 people. Oracle Hungary offers the entire portfolio of the company to its Hungarian customers directly or through 250 business partners - it can be read in the press release published by Oracle.
