Opera bought the Handster

Opera bought the HandsterThe direction in which Opera envisions a secure future for the company is clearly visible.

Norwegian Opera Software has announced the acquisition of Handster, which develops and operates platform-independent application stores. According to the press release, the Illinois-based company has the largest independent Android marketplace, but they also deal with Java, Symbian, Windows Mobile and BlackBerry systems, as well as neglecting netbooks and tablets. They offer their services not primarily to end users, but to network operators and handset manufacturers. Names include MTS, Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Huawei or LG.

"Opera is gradually transforming from a browser manufacturer into a fully integrated mobile services company, and this acquisition is an important step in that direction." said Lars Boilesen, CEO of Opera Software, about the announcement.

Opera was previously acquired FastMail FM and AdMarvel entered the Internet advertising business and increased its online presence. In the future, the company will be based on unified and complex services, not on a "simple" browser. For this, it has at its disposal a mature rendering engine, serious experience in the world of mobile machines and devices, as well as significant development tools that support many devices at the same time.
