Intel is also strengthening the front of netbooks

Updated platform on the horizon.

While Atom has been an excellent pull on the part of the world’s largest processor maker, Intel can’t sit on its laurels as VIA and ARM have appeared on the palette as rivals with their own solutions. Accordingly, the manufacturer is working on a project codenamed Pineview, which can be seen practically as an improvement on the current Atoms.

Intel is also strengthening the front of netbooks

In the second half of the year, the 45nm Pineview will arrive in the form of two versions of the Atom, one of which will be part of the brand new Pine Trail-M netbookplatform. The new lineup is expected to launch in the third quarter, with the new platform consisting of just two chips: one for the Pineview CPU and the other for the Tiger Point-M South Bridge. However, this also means that the video and DDR2 memory controller will be integrated into the CPU. Of course, there are a number of improvements: the DirectX 9 graphics core will now crumble at 200 MHz (instead of 133 MHz), and the processor will have 533 MHz PSB instead of 667, and the slowest copy will be 1,6, It will tick at 1 GHz. It is also worth noting that in addition to increasing the power, the consumption was reduced by 7 watt (TDP = XNUMX W).

On paper, the new platform promises to be very good, so we can rightly hope that users will be able to get even more usable netbooks in the second half of the year.
