AMD Phenom II X6: Running at 6,94 GHz!

Professional teams are fighting each other to see who crosses the 7 GHz limit first.

For an event over the weekend, AMD has invited many tuning masters in order to train the six-core desktop units, codenamed Thuban, to the highest possible clock speeds. The record so far is no less than 6,94 GHz.

This awesome rate was achieved with liquid nitrogen, but there were those who used liquid helium. The record was achieved with a multiplier of 28x and a FSB of 248 MHz. Of course, the system was stable during the various tests. It is clear from the picture that success required more than 1,7 volts of core voltage, to be exactly 1,752 volts.

Experiments are unlikely to stop here, as they are already trying to break through the 7 GHz limit in full swing. It looks like the new stepping used at Thuban procik has had a beneficial effect on tuning. This is also evidenced by the fact that with air cooling, these six-core ones go without problems at up to 4 GHz. About this an earlier one in our news can be read in more detail.
