This time, Alfawise delighted us with a blood pressure monitor smartwatch.

On paper, an unbeatable construction is lurking in front of us on the table, its sway called the S2 is surprisingly versatile in light of the fact that its price doesn’t even exceed $ 30 outside of the discount period. Well, of course life has rewritten things now, but let’s not run so far ahead!

Inside the box with the transparent lid you will find the watch, the dock, a rather short USB cable, and the user manual in English. It started well, we didn't expect a wireless charger, and it was also impressive that due to the size of the box, it was easy to pack in it, the accessories could fit comfortably in it. You can see in the pictures above, I got a rather - to put it simply - sparse version, but this is not a common phenomenon, for others the cover was completely clean.

The Alfawise S2 is available in two colors: khaki and black. Tastes and slaps, we think the appearance of the screen enclosed in a gray frame is absolutely acceptable, the (artificial) leather strap is not a completely hopeless case either. The 0,96-inch display is located under the Gorilla Glass, the panel is rectangular according to the price category of the product, so it does not fill the available space by far. There is no problem with the visibility of the 160 × 80 pixel display (of course it is more difficult to read in the August sunshine), thanks to the IPS technology, the view is perfect from all directions. Incidentally, it can be easily calculated from the former parameters that the pixel density is 186,34 PPI, which value in practice proved to be sufficient to meet only wrinkled edges very close. The housing has IP67 protection, so the splashing water will probably not be a problem for the watch - the strap, on the other hand, is another dough, it is not advisable to get away with it regularly.

From the table above, it has already become clear that we are now very well supplied with content, let's move on nicely.

• Step monitor

Quite hectic, for the 800-meter test measurement, the following numbers were obtained: 640, 730, and 790 meters. Since the S2 cannot use the smartphone's positioning system to improve accuracy, we will be forced to mature with this reliability.

• Sleep monitor

Testing here has developed particularly interestingly; Turns out, according to the clock, I’m a very strong sleepwalker, but I have a well-founded suspicion that I didn’t do more than 400 meters last night. Clearly, the widget also registers smaller movements as a step, which obviously had an impact on the sleep monitoring feature as well - this was reflected in some underestimation in terms of sleep time.

• Heart rate and blood pressure monitor

This will be the main strength of the product, as even after several inspections we have come to the conclusion that the sensors provide reliable data. We have so many comments that the system is individual, so due to the different physical conditions, accuracy cannot be guaranteed for everyone!

• Pulse oximeter

We could not use a medically validated device to measure blood oxygen levels, the clock showed values ​​between 96 and 99% - but I noticed that I usually got higher values ​​after intense cardio-like exercise, suggesting that not a random number generator operates the sensor.

The lower part of the watch case has a convex design, which seems a bit strange at first, but it soon proved to be sharp that it was a very good idea! In our opinion, the S2 is not primarily designed for sports purposes, however, it is positive that due to the former trick, the device housing comes into contact with our skin on a smaller surface, so it is harder to sweat underneath. It is worth noting about the strap that it is perforated quite densely, so it is very easy to adjust to size. Overall, the smartwatch is comfortable to wear, due to its ridiculously low weight and soft strap (36 grams), it invisibly embraces our wrists.

For a running glance, we figured out exactly what was working in the widget. Alfawise S2 uses a SoC called Dialog DA14580. The chip has Bluetooth 4.2 support, an appetite below 600 nanoamperes in sleep mode (up to 15 mW under load), and a microcontroller (a combination of microprocessor and peripheral circuits) on the 32-bit ARM Cortex M0. According to the manufacturer, the chip has the following positives: favorable energy demand (can also be operated from a battery), small physical extent (size 2,5 × 2,5 × 0,5 mm) and favorable production cost. It is true that at the time of its launch (early 2014), the system chip was at the forefront of the first two parameters, and now we have come to the conclusion that this product from Dialog could have been included in a product with such a price range due to the favorable production costs. The DA14580 can be used in medical devices anyway, but we think it's important to note that you shouldn't consider the S2 anyway!

After looking at the above, let’s turn to practical experience. The S2's touch button reliably registers operations - except for hurried, sudden movements! -, this is used to scroll through the menu or to start a function / service. With the latter, we simply have to keep our finger there longer, and the various measurements are already underway. At a minimal level, you can also resize the home screen of the clock in this way, of course this is exhausted in that you can choose from a few predefined templates. Unfortunately, testing was not free of negative experiences this time either; The watch flashes the display for a particularly short time when the wrist is raised, or even when we receive the results of various measurements (eg blood pressure), which is why we have simply missed it - the same is true for notifications. As the device does not show the numbers of the previous measurement, we can only read this from our smartphone. The alarm received from various events (eg messages) can be found under the "MSG" menu item, and can also be seen on the display for a very short time. In our experience, it is quite unpredictable (varies by device and platform) whether the text of the message will appear in the tiny panel or only the “MSG” counter will indicate this.

The expected service life of the Alfawise S2 is obviously strongly influenced by user activity, in any case it is likely that the 30 days specified by the manufacturer will be available under a maximum of laboratory conditions. It is worth calculating in about 1-2 weeks, approx. you will meet the charger at such intervals if you don’t just want the watch to be an ornament. The dock is otherwise magnetic, it keeps the watch stable, but the included USB cable is scandalously short, you may want to replace it with a longer one.

JYou app

The utility is best described with the correct craftsmanship indicator, so it became “yó”. We wouldn’t say it was explicitly showy, nor rich in detail, nor did it give much to motivation, but in a matter of moments he established a connection with the watch and then kept it stable. There is no need to register, you don't bombard us with advertisements, you can at least fix it!

We get all the information in bulk on the main screen ("Status"), here we can also manage health measurements with a few clicks. You don't have to search for detailed statements for a long time, on the "Sleep" tab you can look at the statistics collected by the sleep monitor, and the "Sport" covers the pedometer - there is also a weekly and monthly breakdown. In the case of the latter, we didn't really know what to think about the daily goal, because in addition to the 10 steps, there is also a set distance, which is 000 km - yes, you read that well! Under “Settings” you can perform synchronization, manual data download, configure the daily target of the pedometer and the alarm, activate the session interruption warning and the remote camera function. There is also an automatic heart rate monitor, which allows a quick test every two hours - it can only be switched on and off, the timer cannot be changed.

You can also turn off vibrations and turn on the screen automatically for longer standby times, but it’s more practical to just set a time interval for this. We also have the option of an OTA update if another package for the watch is being made - ours has got the latest firmware so we couldn’t try that. JYou will automatically synchronize the time shown on the watch, if this might not work, you may want to start a manual synchronization.

All in all, JYou is not beautiful, but it rivals the reliability of a workman, it is equipped with basic services and opportunities, and the shortcomings will hopefully be filled in time. Or not, in this case, obviously, we have to make do with the above offer, which is still possible - in our opinion.
