Convert your AMD RX480 card to an RX580!
When it comes to squeezing a little extra power out of our machine for free, almost everyone gets their heads up. Now’s your chance to turn your video card into a more powerful type!
Maybe we’re not revealing a big secret by saying that there won’t be any magic here, it’s more just about turning one of AMD’s tricks to our advantage. Originally, an AMD RX480 user indicated in the Techpowerup forum that he had successfully upgraded his card to an RX580. All you had to do was put the Sapphire RX480 card BIOS on the XFX RX580 card and see a miracle, your video card has since logged in as an RX580 and is running at RX580 clock speeds.
AMD's small trick in this case is to re-brand the architecture running on the "old" Polaris 10 GPU, simply by increasing the clock speed of the GPU. According to recent news, the increased voltage values in the newer RX580 BIOS enable higher clock signals, thus increasing the performance of the card.
Along with the fact that this is a good thing, we still recommend that you get involved in the operation only if you acknowledge that it may even go wrong and not update your BIOS faster, but you will not have any working video cards. So, just at your own risk and just be careful!
