The world's fastest DRAM operates at 4,8 GHz

The recorder memory is associated with the name Elpida.

Elpida’s 512 Mb, 4,8 GHz XDR DRAM rests on Rambus XDR technology, with a data transfer rate of 9,6 GB per second. Memory about six times faster than 800 MHz DDR2 modules could be used for the first time in future HDTVs, consoles, servers and workstations.

Samples of the 70 sqm production technology recorder will be removed from the production line in December, and series production is expected to begin in April 2008.
