VIA has introduced its latest chipset, the VX700

VIA has unveiled its latest single-chip solution, the VX700 for UMPC-type devices.

Compatible with the VIA C7-M processor, the 35 × 35 mm chip combines the features of the North and South Bridges, making the VX700, with its smaller size and lower power consumption, the ideal base for laptops coming soon.

UniChrome Pro II IGP graphics core technology called Chromotion Video Engine provides hardware acceleration for playback of MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and WMV9 video formats. Thanks to the integrated LVDS / DVI unit, it easily adapts to various displays, be it CRT, LCD or even HDTV.

The VIA VX700 is expected to be released in the third quarter. It handles DDR and DDR2 memories, supports PATA, SATA II, USB 2.0 and PCI interfaces, and HD audio is no problem.
