Philips is complete with DVD + RW DL specifications

Most likely, by the end of the spring, we could even have a dual-layer rewritable DVD in our hands.

Philips has recently completed the development of the specification for commercial dual-layer DVD + RW discs with version 1.0 (the manufacturer’s own website).

However, the DVD + RW Alliance will not have a monopoly position, as JVC already announced in January that it had completed the DVD-RW DL format, which was then forecast for release in the second quarter of 2006. Since then, the DVD-Forum has also adopted the official logo of the DVD-RW DL (Interior available).

The expected price of dual-layer rewritable discs will be above that of write-once media, which is why prospective buyers are unlikely to rush stores to buy millions of newly developed discs, at least in the early days until prices fall.

We do not currently have information on the compatibility issues that the two newly announced rewritable formats will face, as well as when and at what price these products will be introduced in Hungary.
