The inventor of Linux received the Millennium Technology Prize

Software developer Linus Torvald, inventor of the Linux operating system and Japanese stem cell researcher Jamanaka Sinja won the Millennium Technology Prize from the independent foundation of the Finnish Academy of Technology this year. The € 1,2 million award was presented by Finnish President Sauli Niinisto in Helsinki on Wednesday. The award committee emphasized that Torvald's development, open source Linux, had made a significant contribution to the development of computer operating systems, smartphones and digital video devices, and that Jamanana's discovery in stem cell research - reprogramming adult stem cells into embryonic stem cells , in the treatment of diabetes and Alzheimer's disease. 

The highly prestigious international award, which rivals the Nobel Prize in technology, has now been awarded for the fifth time, for the first time in 2004. It rewards developers every two years whose innovation contributes to improving people’s quality of life.
