Intel looks to the future
Paul Otellini, CEO of Intel, announced that the company has begun work on 7nm and 5nm manufacturing technology.
Based on the company’s plans, preparations have also begun for 14-square-foot production lines at the Oregon, Ireland and Arizona factories. Paul Otellini mentioned that research and development has been going on for 10 years.
It seems clear that Intel will not let go of the strained pace and remains committed to the development of silicon-based technology. It can also be seen that the company intends to produce its products in the near future with technology with a bandwidth of 10 nm and even smaller. According to the director, the transition to 7 nm and 5 nm bandwidths will take place in time.
We came across an extremely interesting presentation while writing this news. The image was presented to the public at the 2003 IDF. As can be seen, the company forecasts that in 2011, 22 sqm of manufacturing technology will be used. The prediction went quite exactly 8 years ahead, but it proved to be frighteningly accurate, as mass production of Ivy Bridge products began last year.
