Google is inviting marketing students to the competition

Google is announcing its latest competition for college and university students to drive traffic to a small or medium-sized business website using the Google AdWords keyword advertising system. Any student in higher education can take part in the competition.

Entrants from all over the world are welcome to enter the competition. Students need to form teams of 4-6 people and use the $ 200 AdWords coupons available to them to raise awareness of a company and website with up to 100 employees that is open to collaboration and does not yet have an AdWords campaign. After developing the strategy, students have three weeks to conduct the marketing campaign and then evaluate the results. In addition to the success of the campaign, the teams must submit two reports: one on the strategy to be followed before the campaign and another on the follow-up after it has ended.

Entry is open to everyone, but is especially recommended for students in marketing, advertising management, e-commerce and media studies, as the competition provides an excellent opportunity to gain close-to-life work experience while comparing their skills and knowledge with their peers in the other side of the world. .

Advertisements can be in any language, but the report to be submitted and the competition materials must be in English - so participation requires a strong command of English.

The final order is formed by a jury of university professors, taking into account about thirty aspects. Key factors include page views, cost-per-clicks, clickthrough rates, keyword selection, text ad creativity, effective budget utilization, and the quality of your preliminary and summary reports.

The winners of the competition, along with their teachers, will win a trip to Google Mountain View headquarters, where they can meet, among others, the AdWords development team. And the best of each area (America; Europe, Middle East and Africa; Asia) can visit the regional centers.

Instructors must register for the competition by February 1 at the latest, but students can run the campaign for any three consecutive weeks between February 10 and May 24. The results will be announced in July this year.

According to Berthold Hass, lecturer at Koblenz-Landau University, "the competition fits perfectly into the curriculum of my media management class. It combines theory with practice, while providing really good fun for the students!”
