The GeForce GT 640 can start on Computex

The Kepler-based novelty was created for users with thin wallets.

The NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 could start as early as next week, which could finally upset the market for entry-level graphics controllers. The GK107 GPU card uses 384 CUDA cores, and the 128-bit memory bus can connect to GDDR3 and GDDR5 memory chips. According to rumors, the GeForce GT 640 graphics processor, which uses the third generation of GDDR memory, is ticking at 797 MHz, so the bottleneck here will be the 1792 GB / s bandwidth created by the 28,4 MHz memory. The upgraded version is already equipped with 5,0 GHz GDDR5 memory - which promises a transfer rate of 80 GB / s - and the GPU is also following a higher pace, running at exactly 950 MHz. An additional power connector is not visible on any of the models due to the 50 and 75 watt power consumption, respectively. The two models are presumably meant to make sales of the Radeon HD 7700 bitter.

gt 640_gigabyteThe leaked results shown above can be attributed to the Gigabyte GeForce GT 640 solution, which uses outdated GDDR3 memories. The controller is overdriven at the factory, but the extent of this is currently unknown. All in all, the performance is impressive, although it would not yet reach the level of the Radeon HD 7750 - which is practically due to the bandwidth-hungry GPU.
