However, smartphone fans will not see new devices this year, at least not on the scheduled show days scheduled for February 24-27. The GSM Association (GSMA) has officially canceled the incident until further notice. The reason for the interruption is obviously the spread of the coronavirus in the background. A mass event like MWC can be a hotbed for the formation of a larger focal point, and visitors from other European countries or overseas can continue to bring the infection home.

Since last week, no fewer than five major companies have left the event for the same reason. GSMA CEO John Hoffman said the outbreak of the coronavirus made it impossible to sustain the event. His statement reads:

“While respecting the safe and healthy environment of Barcelona and the host country, the GSMA has canceled the date of MWC Barcelona 2020 because global concerns about the corona virus outbreak, travel and other circumstances make it impossible for the GSMA to host the event. . Representatives of the host city (Barcelona) respect and understand this decision. Representatives from the GSMA and the host city will continue to work to open the MWC Barcelona 2021 and future exhibitions. At the moment, all we can do is express our condolences to those in China and around the world. ”
