207 million processors this year

The president of Intel Corporation has announced that he expects about 2005 million microprocessors on Earth in 207.

According to the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturer, 2002 million processors were found in 152, a figure that rose to 169 in 2003 and 188 in 2004. Of course, this figure, as well as the 207 million planned for this year, includes not only Intel products, but also solutions from all other vendors.

The fastest growing area continues to be the market for portable solutions, with about 31 percent of Intel processors already finding a host here. In addition, that number could rise to 36 percent by the end of the year.

As for finances, some analysts are a bit pessimistic. Japan is weakening, expecting a serious downturn in the U.S. as well, with one company downgrading its 2005 PC sales forecast by 9,7 percent. That would mean 195,4 million PCs sold, worth about $ 209 billion.

Intel Corporation is preparing to invest more in its manufacturing facilities to serve the tremendous growth in the Chinese, Indian, South American and Russian markets.
