Since 2006, Apple has been building Intel processors into Macs

At the opening of the annual Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) and Apple, Apple announced that it will begin selling some Mac models with Intel processors in the first half of 2006, and by the end of 2007, all newly introduced Macs will include Intel processors.

Apple presented the successful Mac OS X "Tiger" operating system on an Intel-based Mac workstation to more than 3 participating developers for the first time during the opening speech of CEO Steve Jobs. Apple is also starting to distribute a developer package to the participants of its developer program, which enables software to be adapted to the new Intel-based Mac architecture.

"Our goal is to provide our customers with the best computers available, and looking to the future, Intel has the best development directions for this," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "It's been ten years since we transitioned to the PowerPC family of processors, and we believe that Intel now has the best technology for the next ten years."

"We are very excited to have the world's most innovative personal computer manufacturer among our customers," said Intel CEO Paul Ottelini. “Apple was involved in the creation of the PC industry and has been known for years for fresh ideas and innovative approaches. We are looking forward to the collaboration to help the birth of new innovative products from Apple."
