VIA DualGFX Express

Unfortunately, no one can call us biased when we say VIA Technologies has lagged far behind in developing its chipset in recent months. Now maybe we can finally hope for redemption…

A K8T890 Pro and PT894 chipset was originally scheduled by the manufacturer for the end of last year, compared to which they have already slipped for half a year. You can read about the capabilities of these two chipset families in detail in our August quoted news last August, unfortunately not much has changed since then.

Like NVIDIA SLI, the VIA DualGFX Express can work with two NVIDIA GeForce 6000 series video cards. On the occasion of the E3, this was finally demonstrated with the K8T890 Pro, unfortunately the birds do not chirp about accurate results. The PT880 Pro and the traditional K8T890 promise to be at least as interesting: with these VIA products, it would clearly patch up a very serious gap in the market: these chipsets promise a full-fledged AGP and PCI Express × 16 interface at the same time. If all goes well, it can attract millions of customers, as many still suffer from the difficulties of the transition.

Interestingly, the use of the two graphics controllers also works with ATI cards, but this can only be used to increase the display number, as the manufacturer’s current products are not able to work together on a given task. Let’s hope we can really buy the novelties very soon now.
