New energy label for the environment

From the end of 2011, household appliances and TVs sold in the European Union received a new energy label. The new labels are more transparent, language-independent and contain more information.

LG’s washing machines, refrigerators and televisions will also be given a new energy label to certify that the manufacturer’s appliances meet the expectations for environmentally conscious products.

Energy labels were introduced in 1995 to help consumers make decisions and provide information on the energy consumption of a given household product. Continuous technological development - in addition to the appearance of new features and the improvement of old ones - has brought with it that over the years, energy use has become more and more efficient. The new regulation was thus needed, among other things, because ninety percent of new models placed on the market under the previous classification already belong to energy class ‘A’ or higher. The original classification only applied to household appliances (washing machines, dishwashers, refrigerators and wine storage appliances), while the new one is already extended to televisions and the regulation is expected to be extended to various air conditioners from 2013 onwards.

What does the new label mean?

In terms of color coding, there is no change from the past, meaning that dark green is still the most energy-efficient device, while red is the opposite.
There has already been a change in energy classes. Three new categories have been added to the previous obsolete classifications, 'A +', 'A ++' and 'A +++'. The new labels have different meanings for washing machines and refrigerators. The former consumes 10% less per '+' than an 'A' energy class appliance, while a '+' consumes 20% less. These values can save tens of thousands of forints annually.

In addition to the energy rating, the labels also contain other useful information. In the case of refrigerators, the pictograms provide information on the expected annual energy consumption, the storage capacity of the refrigerator and freezer, and the noise emission of the appliance, in decibels. For washing machines, the annual energy consumption and water consumption refer to 220 normal wash cycles. The label also shows the spin efficiency class, filling capacity (standard 60 or 40 degree cotton program at full load) and two noise levels, wash and spin phase (standard 60 degree cotton program at full load).

Thanks to the patented linear compressor technology, LG refrigerators offer outstanding efficiency and energy efficiency. Of the models available in Hungary, five received energy classes 'A', eleven 'A +' and four 'A ++'.

Inverter Direct Drive ™ technology from LG washing machines plays a big role in low energy consumption in addition to the 10-year warranty. Of the eleven LG washing machines available at home, eight received the excellent 'A ++' and three the highest 'A +++' energy labels.

LG’s latest TVs have also entered an upscale energy class. Four-fifths of LG's 2012 LCD / LED TV offerings represent the most energy-efficient categories ('A +', 'A').
