Autorun continues to cause the most infections

Autorun continues to cause the most infectionsThe Autorun era seems to remain, and Conficker isn’t moving from second place either.

Every month, ESET compiles a top list of computer viruses spreading in Hungary, from which we can find out what malware is currently threatening the computers of Hungarian users.

There is no significant change in the virus list in July, and the two-member cutting edge is now in its fourth month. The INF / Autorun virus in the first place is considered to be an old motorbike, which uses the autorun feature of Windows to spread. The second is the Conficker worm, which spreads by exploiting the lack of operating system updates, weak passwords, and the ability to run it automatically, and although the update that closes the vulnerability is long overdue, it has been at the top of the chart for a year and a half.

Third place is Win32 / HackMS, a pirated key generation tool originally created for Microsoft programs, but also containing malware. Another change is that the Win32 / Shutdowner Trojan has moved from the previous ninth to seventh place. The malware also has a rootkit component that hides files from file management applications during operation, even if these files do not have a hidden attribute. However, its main and most noticeable effect is that its criminal routine shuts down the Windows system that is currently running, disrupting work, or even causing data loss.
