S3 Graphics continues to brave in the lower category
S3 Graphics has come up with another graphics controller that is promising in its category.
S3 Graphics tries to keep up with the big ones at its modest pace - unveiled in March this year Chrome 430 GTintended as an opponent of the ATI Radeon HD 3450 and the NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS, Chrome 440 GTX ATI raced the HD 3470 while announcing it in late September Chrome 400 ULP series graphics controllers have tried to gain a foothold in the laptop market - unfortunately with less than more success.
Today, S3 Graphics has launched a new series, with the Chrome 500 series so far only single-player. For the Chrome 530 GT, the following technologies are worth talking about:
- a DirectX 10.1 and that OpenGL 2.1 / 3.0 knowledge
- GPGPU: the graphics processor can also be used for parallel tasks: image manipulation procedures, video encoding, physical calculations, etc.
- a ChromotionHD Video Engine is responsible for hardware acceleration of HD video playback (including H.264, MPEG-2, VC-1, WMV-HD and AVS format movies)
- a PowerWise changes the clock and voltage of the graphics core depending on the load, thus reducing power consumption and heat generation
S3 Graphics has also prepared graphs for the Chrome 530 GT, which show that an NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT/GTS graphics controller takes less of a load on the central unit when playing high-definition videos, while the other comparison concerns the "raw" performance of the video card — according to S3 Graphics, in 3DMark 2006, the Chrome 530 GT beats the ATI Radeon HD 4350 by a hair's breadth.
