Globalfoundries is expanding!

The company is not investing in one, but two large investments at once.

Globalfoundries wants a growing slice of the semiconductor manufacturing cake for itself, as evidenced by the fact that it has recently been announced that the company is devoting itself to two huge investments in order to greatly increase production.

The brand new factory will be built in Dresden, which will Fab 1 it will bear the name and will greatly increase production, thus reaching 80.000 Wafer per month. With this, the Fab1 plant will become the largest and most important semiconductor factory in Europe, where the clean rooms will occupy 8 football pitches. It is also important to mention that Fab 1 will provide new resources for the development of 22nm manufacturing technology, so it will definitely have a beneficial effect on its development schedule. Mass production is expected in 2011.

The other major investment is Fab 8 plant they wish to expand. The area of ​​the plant, located in New York State, is planned to increase from its current 8.000 m2 to 27.000 m2, which is about eight football pitches. The expanded Fab 8 plant capacity can reach 60.000 wafers per month. Commissioning is dated 2012, while high-volume production is dated 2013.
