Once the square, now the round is crappy?
When the first smartwatches appeared the shape was rectangular. The choice is understandable, the square clock doesn’t take up much more space on our wrists than the round one, but the useful space in it is much larger. In the meantime, the electronics of the watches and the battery needed less and less space, so more and more round watches appeared. What remained square was considered crappy, as it meant that it was not modern enough inside.
Then last year, Apple’s new watch was released, which became big and square. It soon became clear that the square clock was not crappy after all, in fact, it was really a cool shape. More and more companies are issuing watches of this shape, so we are slowly keeping in mind that round shapes are becoming a thing of the past.
A good example of this trend is the Microwear H5, the manufacturer's new watch, which comes as a surprise in addition to the angularity, and this is the support for the B20 800 MHz LTE band, which allows us to surf the web with high bandwidth at home.
The clock is normal anyway, but that doesn’t mean you know little, in fact. Today’s cheap watches are also equipped with a surprising variety of sensors and radios. The Microwear H5, for example, got GPS, WiFi, heart monitor, sleep monitor, barometer, thermometer, compass. The watch has also received a complete sports management system, so in addition to everyday use, we also make good use of it during sports.
The hardware built into the watch isn’t extraordinarily powerful, but as you’ll see, it’s enough compared to a watch. The central unit is an MTK6737 SoC, which employs a quad-core 1,1 GHz proci. Next to it you will find 1 GB of RAM and and no less than 8 GB of storage, which is even enough to take your favorite music with you to run on it, which you can then enjoy with a Bluetooth headset. The touch screen of the phone has a 1,54 inch diagonal and a resolution of 240 x 240 pixels. As an extra, we also get a 2 megapixel camera so we can make video calls while staring at our wrists, evoking old Bond movies.
As a special pleasure, the price of cheap watches last year continues to fall. In 2017, the price of a watch in this category was 110-120 dollars, while the price of the Microwear H5 in the introductory campaign was only 90 dollars, ie roughly 23 thousand forints.
