Sony PS3: will it be too good?

According to a Japanese site, one of the biggest advantages of the Sony PlayStation 3 could become its biggest drawback, which could even be fatal in the fight against the Xbox 360.

As we know, Microsoft's Xbox 360 can no longer be considered a simple target PC like the traditional Xbox, as its central unit, for example, will be an IBM solution based on a completely different architecture. However, Sony's future product will offer even greater innovations, such as the Rambus memory system or Blu-ray storage.

According to our information so far, the PlayStation 3 will be significantly more powerful than Microsoft's solution in terms of hardware, ie the reverse order will be exactly what was true for the previous generation. So, despite the fact that the PlayStation 3 seems a much more promising platform in this respect, the most dominant players in the market, software developers, are seriously concerned. According to their data, due to Sony's very high expectations, the development of a game requires an initial investment of nearly $ 18 million, all with other development costs to follow. Of course, due to the expected very high sales volume, it is worth paying these extra costs to larger companies, but smaller publishers and developers are clearly incapable of doing so.

So this is one of the reasons why many companies are expected to switch to much lower cost competition, which could certainly cause significant damage to Sony. However, despite the above, an Xbox 360 is still much closer to a PC than a PS3, so you can get away with transcripts of individual games quite cheaply.

So we can expect a very interesting battle between the two giants, as the current situation in the console market also shows that more advanced hardware matters much less than convincing individual software companies. However, for the time being, there are many more well-known developers in favor of Sony, the question of whether they will persevere, and whether Microsoft will be able to take advantage of its initial advantages enough to remain a winner in the long run.
