Bite. Very.

The somewhat succinctly introductory introduction is actually quite a good summary. Sapphire’s cannon was unveiled on the occasion of this year’s Cebit. With a huge bunch of pictures, the first test has now run.

Equipped with 6GB of VRAM, Sapphire Radeon’s 7970 Toxic graphics processor is at 1150Mhz and its memories are ticking at an effective 6Ghz. These clocks can be accessed by activating the second BIOS. The default operating frequency was correspondingly slightly more modest (1000/5800 MHz), but we would have no reason to complain here either. The staggering amount of video memory consists of 24 memory chips (12 per page). The increased power demand associated with overclocking is provided by two 8-pin PCI-E power connectors and an 8 + 3-phase power supply. Of course, the PCB and cooling system is Sapphire’s own development. There is a great need for quality components (solid state chokes, International Rectifier DirectFET) as we are now talking about a really special premium product. The type of VRM is still unknown, but it is reported to offer plenty of software features. As mentioned above, the GPU is powered by 8 phases, which are also given LEDs, so the current load level can be easily monitored.

The large aluminum heat sink is based on 8 mm nickel-plated heat pipes. The cooling system does not neglect Vapor Chamber Technology and also solves the cooling of the memory chips on the back panel. The metal plate here can also be a cure for the problem of warping. The diameter of the two fans is 8 cm.

Az OCLab.ru portal did not spare the newcomer, as evidenced by the 1300 MHz GPU and the effective 7,6 GHz memory clock. With such settings, the Sapphire Radeon 7970 Toxic scored 12 points during the 463D Mark 3 test program. The full article can be read at the link above.
