Samsung: 1-disc mini disk with a capacity of 60 GB

The new family of portable hard drives - the N-series - has been introduced with four capacities.

The 1,8-inch mini-discs come in 20, 30, 40 and 60 GB capacities, respectively, and feature 4200 rpm and 2 MB of cache. Parallel ATA and the CE-ATA interface give it a wide range of uses, so they can pop up on Samsung HDDs in laptops, UMPCs, portable media players or even car navigation systems.

The top model has a storage capacity of 60 GB, which is also interesting because it has been achieved using only one plate, so Samsung can claim to be a world leader in this size category with such technical features. The outstanding data density was, of course, made possible by the use of Perpendicular Magnetic Recording (PMR) technology.
