The team from Romania and Bulgaria won the Informatics Student Olympiad

As a forerunner of the London Olympics, the Central European Informatics Student Olympics ended on 2012 July 12 in Tata.
olympics 2 52 talented IT students from twelve countries competed in the seven-day competition, enriched with rich cultural programs. 6 gold medals, 10 silver medals and 14 bronze medals were awarded in the competition. The teams from Romania and Bulgaria were the best performers, winning 2-2 gold medals, Hungary, which was able to participate in the Olympics with two teams, won 1 silver and 4 bronze medals. At the same time as the Olympics, four hundred people from many parts of the world took part in the competition, which was advertised on the Internet. The real curiosity of the Olympics was that the contestants were able to participate in an interactive video conference with Google’s chief engineer.

“The participants in the competition and Google have a common dream: to build the best algorithms to advance the world with the power of technology. Fifteen years ago, I was one of these students, myself participating in similar competitions. This is also why I have a career at Google. I’m glad I was able to share my experiences with them. ” Said Mihai Stroe, a senior Google engineer who joined the competition from Zurich through an interactive Google Hangouts video conference. ”

The Olympics was hosted by the József Eötvös High School in Tata, where Professor Öveges himself taught for years. Thanks to the hosts, the competition took place in excellent conditions, the participants received heartfelt Hungarian hospitality.
