The successor to one of the spring’s hit phones has been tailored to today’s needs.

The Cubot X20 Pro came with plenty of cameras and a bit of storage

In the spring, the Cubot X19 was one of the most popular phones to come from an emerging Chinese manufacturer. No wonder, as it was (has been) a good price, and it didn't lack power or camera skills. Now here’s the offspring, even prettier, even stronger, with more cameras on it, though it costs a little more.

If you want a cheap but powerful central unit for your phone, MediaTek Helio offers a selection of P60, P70 and P90. There is no essential difference between the P60 and P70, only the clocks are a little higher. The chip has all the capabilities you need for a phone tailored to today. It includes support for eight processor cores, high-resolution displays and many cameras, as well as the latest data transfer technologies. That is, the basics are good, as Cubot engineers voted for the Helio P60 and couldn’t go wrong with that.

The Cubot X20 Pro is really special, it pushes the boundaries of the mid-range due to its capabilities, but, as we are used to with the Cubot, the price is one class lower. The large 6,3-inch display has a resolution of FHD +, or 1080 x 2340 pixels. The IPS panel is broken only by a tiny, drop-shaped camera island at the top edge that houses a 13-megapixel self-contained camera. It also got some intelligence, as it was able to recognize that a man or woman was photographing itself with it, and facial beautification wasn’t left out either.

From a camera point of view, the back cover is even more interesting, as unlike the category, not two but three lenses were housed in the rectangular camera island. In addition, they have quite good values. At several manufacturers, we can see what the principle of everything, just as many as possible, is followed in connection with the cameras, and this results in the fact that we get three rear-facing cameras, but they are essentially useless. The Cubot X20 Pro, on the other hand, seems really usable, and even a curiosity is hidden in the specification.

The main camera received a Sony IMX486 sensor, which is 12 megapixels. It's true that 48 megapixels are popular these days, but don't underestimate 12 megapixels, just as an example, the two rear cameras of the Xiaomi MIX 3 are "only" 12 megapixels each. For indoor photos, we get an 12-megapixel camera with a 125-degree viewing angle, which doesn't look bad either, but the real interesting thing is the depth sensor. The latter is only 8 megapixels for most manufacturers, but Cubot has a 2 megapixel Sony IMX20 sensor under the lenses. We assume that with the help of this we will get a wonderful depth blur.

Of interest to the cameras is the AI, or artificial intelligence support, which the Helio P60 central unit built into the phone hardware supports through a dedicated artificial intelligence processor. The AI is able to recognize the subject to be photographed, hundreds of algorithms are working to get the best possible end result. Built-in subject recognition can identify 15 different objects or conditions, such as when the weather is cloudy, but even when shooting at sunset. Among the recognizable things there are, for example, the flower, the car, the food, the plants and the fruits. Based on the attached test photos, the thing seems to be working, not bad!

Let's take a quick look at what features the phone has. We’ve talked about the CPU before, but not about the amount of memory and storage capacity above the category as well. The former 6- the latter is 128 GB, which can be expanded with a memory card if it proves to be scarce. Of course we get a Bluetooth and wifi interface, GPS is not left out either. There is an abundant supply of sensors. Accelerometer, light sensor, geomagnetic sensor, gravity sensor, gyroscope and proximity sensor are included in the package.

Interestingly, the fingerprint sensor was omitted, instead the front panel 13-megapixel camera is left with face recognition and device unlocking. Of course, we also have the option to set the traditional modes, so we can also set a PIN for security. Not to mention the battery, which has a capacity of 4000 mAh. The rest of the hardware is matched by this capacity, which is confirmed by the manufacturer's data, as it can hold 28 hours of talk time, 106 hours of music, then 9 hours of video, 6 hours of gaming on a single charge, of course, or that's it.

Overall, Cubot has once again put a great device on the table, we raise our hats in front of them, mainly because this hardware is provided at an affordable price. The introductory price of the device is $ 149,99 (HUF 45), which is at least $ 447-20 lower than competing phones with similar capabilities, which is a significant difference in this price category.
